Hugo Demarco (1933-2017)
Hugo Demarco was an Argentine-born artist renowned for his contributions to kinetic and optical art. After moving to Paris in the 1960s, Demarco became associated with the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV), a collective focused on experimental and interactive art. His works are characterized by vibrant colors, geometric patterns, and optical illusions that engage and challenge the viewer's perception. Throughout his career, Demarco exhibited widely across Europe and Latin America, gaining recognition for his innovative approach to visual art. His legacy continues to influence contemporary artists exploring the intersections of light, movement, and color.
In 1964, he took part in the le mouvement 2 exhibition at galerie denise rené, and the following year in the Responsive Eye exhibition at MoMA in New York, followed by the Lumière et mouvement exhibition at the Musée d'Art moderne de la Ville de Paris. In 1968, galerie denise rené organized a double solo show for him on rue la boétie and boulevard saint germain. His work can be found in public collections in Europe, South America and Australia.
